Online learning, also known as distance learning or distance education, is the delivery of instruction to students who are apart from the instructor or instructors. It fosters regular and meaningful interaction between students and the instructor(s), either synchronously (students must log in and participate in class at a set time each week) or asynchronously (online learning that allows students to view instructional material without the instructor being present). The following technologies may be used for instruction: Internet, audio conferencing, video cassette, DVDs, and CD-ROMS, if the latter are used in a course alongside the technologies. One-way and two-way transmissions through open broadcasts, closed circuit, cable, microwave, broadband lines, satellite, or wireless communication devices.
