Lower-division computer courses and general education prerequisites typically make up the first two years of bachelor’s degree study in computer studies. Beginner programming courses, applications courses, and networking courses are likely to be taken during this time.

A computer studies degree program’s final two years of study are often more heavily focused on computer training. Upper-division coursework that the student normally takes may have an emphasis on advanced programming languages, software development, systems analysis, and maintenance. Through work-study programs as well as courses conducted in computer labs, students can strengthen their computer diagnostics and problem-solving skills.
